BGRIMM Group Invited to Attend the 2024 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation and Development Forum
From November 7 to 8, 2024, the 2024 China-Africa Innovation Cooperation and Development Forum, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the People's Government of Hubei Province, was grandly held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. With the theme of "Innovation Promotes Cooperation, Cooperation Writes a New Chapter," the forum brought together nearly 800 experts, scholars, and government representatives from 32 countries and regions to discuss China-Africa innovation cooperation and exchange. Zhang Dan, Deputy Director of the China-South Africa Joint Research Center for Mineral Resources Development and Utilization (referred to as the China-South Africa Joint Research Center) and Director of the Information Research Center of BGRIMM Group, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech at the China-Africa Green Technology and Sustainable Development Seminar. Professor Puti Ezra Ngobeni, Founding Fellow of the South African Academy of Science and Professor at the University of Limpopo, who is also a key member of the China-South Africa Joint Research Center, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and delivered a speech at the Main Forum.
At the Main Forum, Professor Puti pointed out that the cooperation between China and South Africa in the development and utilization of mineral resources has a long history and has yielded fruitful results. The two sides have established a favorable situation of complementary strengths in various areas such as technology, talent cultivation, and platform building. He noted that the establishment of the China-South Africa Joint Research Center was based on the shared need for development, aiming to integrate resources, strengthen scientific research efforts, and enhance the core competitiveness of both countries in the field of mineral resources. Professor Puti emphasized that he has always maintained a close partnership with leading Chinese research institutions and enterprises, represented by BGRIMM Group. He recognized that Chinese enterprises have rich experience in mineral processing, smelting, and comprehensive resource utilization. With deepening exchanges and cooperation, the two sides have jointly carried out theoretical research and industrial technology development in fields such as mining, mineral processing, and new energy materials. These cooperative research efforts have been continuously supported by the governments of both countries, with strong backing in areas including policy guidance, financial support, and the promotion of research outcomes. This has fostered a favorable environment for China-South Africa mining cooperation and safeguarded the advancement of their collaborative research. He also expressed his honor in having received the Chinese Government Friendship Award in 2021.
China-Africa Green Technology and Sustainable Development Seminar
At the "China-Africa Green Technology and Sustainable Development Seminar" held on the afternoon of the 7th, Zhang Dan delivered a presentation titled "Joint Development and Application of Technologies for the Sustainable Development and Utilization of Mineral Resources between China and South Africa."
She noted that the China-South Africa Joint Research Center, as an important scientific and technological innovation platform for mining cooperation between the two countries, brings together top-tier research, technological, and industrial resources from both sides. Focusing on key technical challenges in the mining sector, the Center has effectively promoted technological innovation and sustainable development in the China-South Africa mining and metallurgy fields.
Thanks to this vital platform for science and technology collaboration, the scope of cooperation between China and South Africa has gradually expanded from mineral processing to cover various stages across the entire industry chain, including mining, smelting, automation, and new energy materials. Some of the collaborative outcomes have already been successfully applied in mining enterprises not only in China and South Africa but also in third-party countries and regions, generating significant economic benefits.
Professor Puti also participated in this sub-forum, sharing his personal insights and experiences on China-South Africa scientific and technological cooperation. In his presentation, he highlighted several achievements, including the joint development between the University of Limpopo and BGRIMM Technology Group’s Mineral Processing Department of a targeted adsorption model for flotation reagents based on the fine construction of mineral structures in the mining and metallurgy field. In the field of energy storage materials, he mentioned the collaboration with Easpring Technology, which led to the development of a world-leading new method for building structural models and simulating structure–activity relationships for lithium-ion battery cathode materials.
During the forum, several experts and scholars shared their research findings and practical case studies on green technology and sustainable development, enriching the forum’s content from various perspectives and promoting knowledge exchange and cooperation between China and Africa in the fields of green technology and sustainable development.
