South Africa’s Ministry of Science and Innovation Visits BGRIMM


On March 17, a delegation led by Mr. Cecil Masoka, Chief Director of Overseas Bilateral Cooperation at South Africa’s Ministry of Science and Innovation, visited BGRIMM’s R&D Center. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in mineral resource development, new energy materials, technological innovation and other fields. Han Long, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of BGRIMM, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Han Long extended a warm welcome to Chief Director Cecil Masoka and talked about China-South Africa scientific and technological cooperation. He noted that BGRIMM has made remarkable progress in sci-tech cooperation with South Africa in recent years, laying a solid foundation for bilateral innovation and industrial collaboration. The two sides should continue to deepen cooperation in scientific research, joint platform development and industrial coordination, so as to jointly open up new prospects for cooperation and development in the mineral resources sector between the two countries.


Cecil Masoka spoke highly of BGRIMM and its subsidiary Easpring for their industry-leading research capabilities. He pointed out that both South Africa and China are BRICS partners and have achieved fruitful cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope that BGRIMM will give full play to its technological advantages and industrial experience to provide strong support for the development and utilization of key mineral resources and the development of the battery materials industrial chain in South Africa.


During the symposium, researchers from the joint laboratory reported on the progress and results of ongoing joint research. Chen Yanbin, Chairman of Easpring, introduced the company’s technological innovations and product layout in the field of new energy materials. The two sides held in-depth discussions on the efficient utilization of mineral resources, R&D of new energy materials, battery technologies and other topics, and reached consensus on advancing cooperation in the new energy industry.


The delegation visited the exhibition hall of the R&D Center to learn about BGRIMM’s core business sectors. They also toured the battery material preparation and physicochemical testing laboratories, witnessing Easpring’s technological achievements and industrial applications on site.
