BGRIMM Marks on the "Belt and Road": The South Africa PMC Flotation Plant EPC Project
Editor’s Note: In 2013, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the major initiative of jointly building the "Belt and Road." Over the past decade of the new era, BGRIMM has adhered to Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, actively implementing the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the "Belt and Road" initiative. The company has followed the mining and metallurgy values of "co-creation, win-win, and shared growth," initiating a series of engineering collaborations with countries along the Belt and Road and achieving fruitful results. The vast majority of the group’s employees have embraced the social responsibility concept of "empowering technology and giving back to society," upholding the spirit of mining and metallurgy, and actively fulfilling their responsibilities. They have built strong ties with partners and local communities, creating a series of brand projects along the Belt and Road. Now, we present the "Mining and Metallurgy Marks on the Belt and Road" series of special reports. Let’s review the highlights and embark on a new journey.
In 2015, BGRIMM won the bid for the South Africa PMC Flotation Plant EPC project, which began design work in the same year and was delivered in 2019. The project involved test research by BGRIMM 's Mineral Processing Institute, design work by the Engineering Company, and the supply of major equipment by the Mechanical and Electrical Company and the Automation Institute. The project site management team consisted of personnel from multiple departments, including the Engineering Company, Trading Department, and Metallurgical Institute. The project fully leveraged BGRIMM 's comprehensive strengths and became a landmark engineering project in BGRIMM's active practice of the "Belt and Road" initiative, utilizing both market and resource advantages in the "go global" strategy.
The South Africa PMC Flotation Plant EPC project is characterized by significant technical challenges, high delivery standards, and strong industry leadership. The project team adhered to the principles of advanced technology, site-specific adaptation, and green efficiency in design. The project employed a flotation short-process technology, large-scale intelligent advanced equipment, and high-standard, rigorous construction quality. The overall process, technology, equipment, and energy consumption achieved industry-leading levels. After the project's implementation, the flotation recovery rate improved by more than 10% compared to the original plant, increasing annual economic benefits by more than 300 million RMB. This has strongly promoted and driven local economic and social development, with significant economic and social benefits.
Through engineering design, the project effectively integrated Chinese technology and equipment with international standards, creating a benchmark for the global output of Chinese mining and metallurgy technology, equipment, and engineering design. This has significantly enhanced the competitiveness and influence of "mining and metallurgy technology" and "mining and metallurgy manufacturing" in the global mineral resource development field. The project has received several prestigious awards, including the "First Prize for Engineering Design Achievements" from the China Nonferrous Metals Construction Association and the "First Prize for Excellent Survey and Design in Nonferrous Metals Industry" from the China Survey and Design Association. The "PMC South Africa General Contracting Project Site Management Service Team" was awarded the "21st National Youth Civilization Award" and recognized as a "One-Star National Youth Civilization Award."
